Infant Gross Motor Milestones: 4-6 Months

For PT Month we’re continuing to talk about gross motor milestones, what’s expected, when to reach out to a pediatric PT and why! Pediatric Physical Therapists are great members of your tribe to help your little one reach their milestones.

What's Expected:

Rolling Over: Your little one is likely mastering the art of rolling over from tummy to back and vice versa.

Sitting Up:  Some babies may start to sit with support, showing better head control.

Reaching and Grasping: They're becoming pros at reaching for toys and may even attempt to grasp objects.

Bears weight through legs: They put weight through their legs when supported in standing, equally.

While each child develops at their own pace, it's essential to be aware of potential signs that may require the expertise of a pediatric physical therapist:

Persistent Delays:  If your baby is significantly behind in reaching these milestones.

Muscle Stiffness or Floppiness: Unusual muscle stiffness or a lack of muscle tone.

Lack of Interest: If your baby shows little interest in movement or has discomfort during playtime.
